May-05-08 | | Atking: Indeed <square dance> according to chessbase Wang-Mamedyarov ended with d5. The sophia rules seem to have been not applicated for that game. |
May-05-08 | | hovik2003: Because sometimes I go over the board in my posts, they consider me a racist, that is funny , a Armenian racist who likes couple of Azeri players and follows their games!! |
May-05-08 | | square dance: <atking> maybe the position after d5 is drawish enough even for the sofia rules. or maybe there is some rather logical exception allows one to take a draw if it secures 1st place in the tournament. |
May-05-08 | | hand banana: i've heard the game ended on move 58. so we haven't seen all. probably threefold. |
May-05-08 | | mr.fisk: Wang - Shak

May-05-08 | | john murphy: I think that if there is a tie at the top, the winner is the player with the lowest ELO rating. |
May-05-08 | | hovik2003: Yes Wang did play 48.e5 and Kd2-d3 but it didn't help him anyway! |
May-05-08 | | e4ia: Official standings are here all;

Thanks for posts Mal; that tiebreak method was lol squared! http://baku2008.fide.com/tourview/s... |

May-05-08 | | malthrope: <hand banana: i've heard the game ended on move 58. so we haven't seen all. probably threefold.> The game 'Wang-Mamedyarov' continued after 47... d5 with 48. e5 Rb6 49. Kd2 Bc6 50. Nxc6 Rxc6 51. Ra2 Rb6 52. Kc3 Rc6 53. Kb2 Kc8 54. Ra5 Kb7 55. b4 Rb6 56. Kb3 Nb5 57. Bxb5 Rxb5 58. Rxb5 axb5 and... Draw! ;) |

May-05-08 | | Atking: Thanks <mr.fisk> and <square dance> (I like this one: <or maybe there is some rather logical exception allows one to take a draw if it secures 1st place in the tournament.>) Indeed you were right they played until an obvious draw even for Sophia rules. |
May-05-08 | | nolanryan: this was the best event website in quite a while... I didn't experience any relay problems, and it wasn't broken on firefox! I thought the layout was clean, and it was pretty easy to find the games |
May-05-08 | | researchj: Magnus shared first here and Corus and second in Linares: not bad! |
May-05-08 | | babakova: The website was quite good,I agree. |
May-05-08 | | mistreaver: <Magnus shared first here and Corus and second in Linares: not bad!>
Yes i agree, but imho the star of this tournament is Gashimov i think no1 expected him to tie for 1st |

 | | WannaBe: And to think, I had my chess bucks on Gata! =( |
May-05-08 | | Dr.Lecter: <wannabe> Well, he did win the World Cup, but I don't know what happened here. He started fairly well, didn't he? |
May-05-08 | | chessmoron: So Gashimov/Wang/Carlsen get the same FIDE Cup points? |
May-05-08 | | jonnymalk: yes, they do. total prize money and points are split three ways chessbase explains
http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail...
as does the fide site
http://grandprix.fide.com/regulatio...
and wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chess_... |
May-05-08 | | vanytchouck: yes
140 pts for the 1st
130 pts for the 2nd
120 pts for th 3rd become (140+130+120)/3 = 130 for each. The same system goes for the bonus: (40+20+10)/3 = 23,3 (around) for each. |
May-05-08 | | NakoSonorense: Congrats to the winners!
Boo to the losers! |
May-05-08 | | Pjalle: Dr. Lecter, Gata started off with +2 in the first 6 games then he dropped to -1 at the end. Dunno what happened, I expected Gata to win the tourney. He was a total killer in the worldcup, even busted Magnus ass, but he is unstable. |
May-06-08 | | manethos: Gata is saving his good stuff for Topalov??!!! |
May-06-08 | | Atking: <Pjalle> <manethos> Or maybe during the tournament, he learned that he should have to play the match in the country of his opponent. |
