 | | Stonehenge: When was the last time Timman played well? 20 years ago or something? |
May-30-08 | | virginmind: by move 20 andersson and portisch have exchanged almost all pieces. i guess andersson's got a plan. |
May-30-08
 | | Mateo: <virginmind: by move 20 andersson and portisch have exchanged almost all pieces. i guess andersson's got a plan.> Well, that's usual in many of his games. He likes this kind of simple positions where he has 0% chances of loss and a slight chance to win if Black does not defend accurately. It's dry and on the long run very boring for the defender. |
May-30-08
 | | Mateo: The position seems dangerous for Portisch if Andersson plays 50.Nf3. And he did. |
May-30-08
 | | Mateo: Now the point of 50.Nf3 would be after 50...Bd5 to bring the Knight to g6. Then, the King to f6. |
May-30-08 | | cannibal: <Mateo>
Yes, but then how does he break through? He can go Kf6 and eventually Nf4, but with black king on d7 and bishop on c4/b3 everything seems safe. |
May-30-08 | | PhilFeeley: Short wins again. He's on a roll... |
May-30-08 | | cannibal: Oh wait, maybe Kf7, and knight to f8. |
May-30-08
 | | Mateo: <CANNIBAL> After 55.Kf7, now the idea is Nf8. |
May-30-08 | | cannibal: <Mateo>
hehe, faster ;-) |
May-30-08
 | | Mateo: But Portisch goest to catch the 'b' pawn. Now 57...Kb5 58.Kf6 Kxb4 59.Nxe6 should follow. |
May-30-08 | | cannibal: <Mateo>
That looks won for white, no? Maybe both passed pawns cost a piece, but then white gets the final shot with his g-pawn. |
May-30-08 | | virginmind: 59...Kb5 according to fritz 11 only adds to black's problems (+2.79 at 25 ply). andersson winning apparently |
May-30-08
 | | Mateo: Another win for Andersson in view. Amazing how he was able again to find something tricky out of a dry ending. |
May-30-08 | | virginmind: actually, it's +4.50 |
May-30-08
 | | Mateo: I don't get the point of 59...Kb5. 59...b5 seems the last chance to draw, although unclear. |
May-30-08 | | virginmind: 61...Kd5 and, heh, +14.16 |
May-30-08 | | virginmind: and we have a mate in 24...:) |
May-30-08
 | | Mateo: The official live broadcast gives a draw. Is this a joke? |
May-30-08 | | virginmind: no, i have 1-0 on playchess.
andersson won. bravo, no more draw-master - he has two wins here, isnt he? |
May-30-08 | | Balthasar: Now live shows 1-0 |
May-30-08
 | | Mateo: they changed the result, 1-0 now... |
May-30-08 | | TheBB: Is Andersson winning games now, all of a sudden? I thought this was a practice he gave up some years ago. |
May-31-08 | | cannibal: What exactly is going on in Bazna this year? Four decisive games out of five yesterday, and of all people Ulf Andersson is on the rampage with two wins in a row. |
May-31-08 | | znprdx: <Stonehenge: When was the last time Timman played well? 20 years ago or something?> http://www.chessgames.com/perl/ches... It would appear he plays well enough to have a career lasting 45 years....a little respect would be in order. |
