Oct-20-07  ahmadov: Should Andriasian not resign after 38...Rxc4?
Oct-20-07  ChessVip: Shak won, andriasian got zero!
Oct-20-07  ahmadov: That is it... Andriasian has blundered in a lost position and resigned immediately!!! Congratulations Mamed for winning the tournament and retaining his Essent crown!!!
Oct-20-07  Mameluk: Good tournament from Mamedyarov. I just hope 38...Rxc4 move is not for real because 39. Rh6+ would turn the tables. Andriasian is only 18 and still can change a sport:)
Oct-20-07  ahmadov: <ahmadov: Should Andriasian not resign after 38...Rxc4?> There was a mistake in live relay... Actually, Rxc4 was the 39th move...
Oct-20-07  hovik2003: Another loss for young Andriasian, I hope after this disaster tournament he wouldn't wash his hands from chess.
Oct-20-07  ChessVip: maybe they invited Andriasian because of lower fee, whas a bad choice for him accept to play against these chess tigers!
Oct-20-07  ahmadov: Hey, I have already congratulated Shark but I am still not sure about the outcome of the other game... Hope it will at least be drawn...
Oct-20-07  hovik2003: <ChessVip>
Actually it is tradition of Essent that every year's junior world champion is invited, and i think they don't pay that much to winner of the tournament either.
Oct-20-07  hovik2003: Van Wely got the score in his right pocket, now advance of black's unstoppable f pawn will decide the game.
Oct-20-07  ahmadov: <Mameluk><Maybe not because of lack of talent but because USA or Germany offer easier chances to make big money.> Don't you think that playing in elite tournaments is not only for money? I think most GMs contiune playing also because chess is a very important part of their life...
Oct-20-07  Mameluk: Ponomariov played on badly in a time trouble and can resign.
Oct-20-07  Karpova: Yep, Van Wely won
Oct-20-07  hitman84: An absolute nightmare of a tourney for Andriasian.
Oct-20-07  hovik2003: It is all over, Shahryar Mamedyarov is deserving winner of Essent2007.
Oct-20-07  Karpova: Final standings

1. Mamedyarov 4.5
2. Van Wely 4.0
3. Ponomarjov 3.5
4. Andriasian 0

Oct-20-07  bakuazer: Congratulations to Sahriyar for winning the tournament!

Oct-20-07  notyetagm: <hovik2003: It is all over, Shahryar Mamedyarov is deserving winner of Essent2007.>

Another excellent result for Mamedyarov, winning Essent for the second consecutive year.

Next stop: European Team Championships.

Go Mamedyarov!

Oct-21-07  hovik2003: <notyetagm>
Well that is were I disagree with you, I think European Team Championship's medals will be divided bitween Russia, Ukrain and Armenia. The color of medals for each country will depend on their team individual's performances.
Oct-21-07  tarlan13: Congratulations to Azerbaijan people and to my friends ahmadov, jafar212, bakuazer!!! Congrats to Shak, the winner of Essent Crown!!! Congrats to Eltaj Safarli, the winner of Essent Open!!! As notyetagm said, the next step for us is European Team Championship and of course becoming the champion.

Open Defence: hmm not much news about Radjabov lately.. whats up with him ?
Oct-21-07  thedarkisrising: I believe Radjabov's next tournament is the European Team Championships, where he will be playing on second board after Mamedyarov. I think the Azerbijan makes a decent chance to win a medal there.Rajdabov and Mamedyarov should score a lot of points on the first two boards and on board three and four we have Gashimov and Gusseinov as usual. If they get a decent score Azerbijan could well finish third of maybe even second.
Oct-21-07  anandrulez: Wely was a silent performer in this tourney . He started with -1 and went on to lag Mame by just 0.5 points ! Incredible stuff from KingLoek , proving that he doesn belong to top league chess .
