Trebitsch Memorial (1928)

The 12th Trebitsch Memorial was played in Vienna, Austria from 19 March to 10 April 1928. It started with 12 players, Von Döry being a late replacement for Rudolf Spielmann. But after two rounds, Dr. Theodor Gruber had to withdraw due to health reasons. His two adjourned games (vs Grünfeld and Takács) were cancelled, and the tournament continued with one bye each round. The original schedule was three rounds a week, but it ended up with

Games were played from 6-11 pm. Adjourned games were played off on Thursday 22 March, Wednesday 28 March, Tuesday 3 April and Friday 6 April. Prizes: 700, 500, 400, 300, 200 and 100 Schilling for the top 6 players. Hönlinger had 6 points and five players 5.5 points before the last round. Grünfeld and Takács won their games and shared the victory with 6.5/11. Number of games played: 55.

Kmoch was the only undefeated player. Eight of the contestants had played in the Vienna (1928) 14-player tournament which ended on 17 March.
