USSR Championship (1948)

The 16th Chess Championship of the USSR was held in Moscow from November 10th to December 13th, 1948. Nineteen of the Soviet Union's strongest players were assembled to participate. Among them were the participants of the Saltsjobaden Interzonal (1948), including the winner David Bronstein, as well as Alexander Kotov, Andor Lilienthal, Igor Bondarevsky, Salomon Flohr, Viacheslav Ragozin, and the previous year's champion, Paul Keres. Bronstein and Kotov shared first place, each with 12/18.

  Phony Benoni: As of today, there are a large number of incorrectly recorded results in the database, which is why the leaderboard differs so radically from the crosstable. I'm trying to track them all down right now.

  chessgames.com: Thanks Phony. It's baffling how this tournament ended up with so many bogus results, but the Librarian is fixing them as quick as you can throw them at her. I think it's almost fixed.

  HeMateMe: Kotov wins the event, with ten wins and four losses. He was thought to be somewhat eratic.
