The Superfinal of the 66th Russian Women's Championship took place in the Novosibirsk State Museum of Local History and Nature, from 16-27 October 2016. The winner of the 12-player round-robin would become the Russian Women's Champion, and win 500,000 roubles (~7,250 euros) and a Renault Kaptur car. The top three would automatically qualify for next year's final. Time control: 90 minutes for 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes to the end of the game, with a 30-second increment from move one. No draw offers allowed before move 40. Tiebreak: 1) number of games with black, 2) Sonneborn-Berger score, 3) number of wins, 4) result of personal encounter, 5) Koya score. In case of a tie for first, two 15+10 rapid games would be played, followed, if necessary, by 5 vs 4 Armageddon. Alexandra Kosteniuk with 8.5/11 took the title for the second time in her career. If in order to win or lose a game mistakes or at least inaccuracies must be made by at least one of the players, the chances for a mistake are greater the lower the players' playing strength. Hence, the chances for decisive games should be (much) greater. |
