The 35 players had qualified from about 15 zonal tournaments. The three Chinese players arrived with laptops and very little luggage. Swiss, 13 rounds in 16 days, starting on Friday 8 November. One bye each round (incl. Chidi's first two rounds, 17 x 13 = 221 games). Rest days 12, 17 & 22 November. The top six players (Gaprindashvili, Peng, Ioseliani, Levitina, Wang & Qin on tiebreak) qualified for the Shanghai Candidates (Women) (1992).

Z Veroci vs S Matveeva, 1991 (Round 12) had 155 moves and six "time delays" (according to Sakkélet), which may explain the reported bracket dates 8-25 November.
