The Accentus GM tournament of the Biel International Chess Festival was an 8-player tournament taking place from 21-30 July 2019 in Biel, Switzerland. This year, all three time formats counted for the final score. For the Rapid (R) games (21 July, 15 min + 5 sec), a win was worth 2 points and a draw 1 point. For the Classical (C) games (22-30 July with a rest day on July 26, 100 min for 40 moves followed by 50 min for 20 moves then 15 min to the end plus a 30-sec increment starting from move one), a win was worth 3 points, with 1 point for a draw. The Blitz (B) games (27 July, 3 min + 2 sec) were played as a double round-robin with normal score points. In case of a tie for first place, chess960 Rapid games would be played and if necessary a normal Armageddon game. (1) Tournament director: Paul Kohler. Chief arbiter: Laurent Freyd.  | | eternaloptimist: Looking at the list of participants, it looks like they mainly selected young up-and-coming GMs. I’m definitely hoping that Shankland will win it. This tournament could be really interesting & give us an idea of which of the young players could be some of the best in the world eventually |

They are playing Najdorf and Mag was already in a bad position out of opening when he made another tactical error. Mag is playing some real lousy tactical chess in Biel. Most likely third loss in a row. |

| Jul-25-19 | | csmath: Yup, Shank won. Mag is playing absolutely horrible chess with blunders in all of his games in classical part. It is rare to see a super GM so inept in tactics. Maybe he is sick or something bothers him but now he had three losses in a row and all those games he played rather bad. Today he missed simple forced combination that was nothing special. Why playing Najdorf if you cannot see something like that? |

Georgiadis at rapid has a FIDE rating about 2488. If the times at ChessBomb are accurate, his blunders started when his time was down to under 2 minutes. |

So I'm wondering myself how much is the ticket from Peru, The States, India, etc.? How much is the hotel, meals, transport, some little tourism? Who pays that? The respective Federations? Then, my great friend, they are quite generous, not Biel organization. How is the prize in any stakes Gr.3? Fifty thousands bucks? Yes! I know my friend, there is a lot of money there, but FIDE also has monetized chess in some sense. Did you see the partners of Biel tournament? Switzerland is one out of the richest countries around the world, and quite expensive too, and the one with the highest purchasing power and with less work too! But why Biel tournament is "so poor''? Simple, they have not a Carlsen, and on this sense you're right! Greetings my friend! |
