The tournament was held during the Spassky - Fischer World Championship Match (1972) in Reykjavík, Iceland (11 July - 31 August). Fifteen rounds in 20 days, starting on Tuesday 25 July (120 games). The first 11 rounds were played in Forssa (about 118 km NW of Helsinki). Rest days 29 July, 3, 6, 8 and 12 August. Chief arbiter: Lembit Vahesaar. Radulov won with 11/15 and took his 2nd GM norm. He and Gheorghiu qualified for the Leningrad Interzonal (1973) and Petropolis Interzonal (1973), respectively.
