Kibitzer's Corner
Sep-04-05  Knight13: Congrats to Almira Skripchenko-Lautier!
Sep-04-05  Sonic Adventure: Yes, congratulations to Ms. Skripchenko-Lautier. I would also like to extend my congratulations to Mr. Lautier, who won the men's division of this event with a fine performance.
Sep-04-05  aw1988: Sexism all around...
Sep-04-05  dac1990: I, too, think that women's sections are largely biased. The definition of sexism is establishing that there is a key difference in intelligence between genders. Why recognize this "difference" by dividing up the sections? No sense.
Sep-04-05  BishopofBlunder: Because women's breasts put them at a natural disadvantage... or is that, women's breasts put ME at a natural disadvantage?
Sep-04-05  dac1990: Also, I don't get people who post like the person above me did, <BishopofBlunder>. Disgusting.
Sep-04-05  BishopofBlunder: It's ok, <dac1990>, alot of people don't understand my sense of humor. It's a curse I've had to live with all my life.
Sep-05-05  aw1988: He was kidding.
Sep-05-05  aw1988: Seriously, I consider myself a fairly strong player (though my analysis on here does not prove it) but I have entered tournaments where I have been defeated soundly by female opponents. And this wasn't a different division...
Sep-05-05  notsodeepthought: It's reasonable to argue that the division was sexist - but I can't help noticing that the French female players obviously must have agreed to this system, at least in the majority. Maybe they had reasons to prefer having a separate competition. My point is that before we indulge in facile accusations regarding "the French" and their mistreatment of women chessplayers, we should consider whether the (allegedly) injured parties really felt discriminated against.
Sep-05-05  BishopofBlunder: Is this "separation" so unusual? Don't most tournaments have separate men's and women's divisions?
Sep-05-05  cade: Yes almost every single national tournament is seperated. Nothing sexist here unless you consider the whole world sexist for allowing women called something other than Polgar to win tournaments.
Sep-05-05  refutor: at least "grandmaster draws" aren't limited to grandmasters...look at the number of quick draws between the tailenders, particularly French Championship (women) (2005)/Christine Flear
Sep-05-05  BishopofBlunder: Is there a stipulation in the rules to keep women from playing in the men's division? I assume there would be to keep men out of the women's division. But if a woman is allowed to play the men then I see no sexism.
