Ventnor City (1941)

This tournament took place in the resort town of Ventnor City, New Jersey, USA in 1941. The play took place in the Sun Room of the Municipal Pier.

It was one of a series of locally organized tournaments from 1939 to 1947. (1)

The first prize was $80, the second was $50, the third was $25 and the fourth was $10. Non-prize winners were given $3 a point and there were prizes for both the "best-played" and the "most brilliant" games. (2)

In modern (2024) values, the main prizes would be worth: $1,740, $1,088, $544 and $218. (3)
