Summary
The Handicap Tournament has so far progressed that the first and second prizes have been gained. Mr. Steinit won the first prize; he encountered in his various matches players of considerable ability, to whom he had to give larges odds, and yet, throughout the contest, he did not lose a single game. The second prize was obtained by Mr. Wisker, whose play has been characterised by care in the conduct of the games, and by his knowledge of the openings.(4)

Mr. Blackburne has won the third prize. His opponents in the last round were Messrs. S. Franklin and V. Green, to each of whom he gave the pawn and move with success. The fourth prize has to be contested between Messrs. Franklin and Green. (5)

This interesting contest has now been brought to a conclusion. Herr Steinitz gained the first prize, Mr. Wisker the second, Mr. Blackburne the third, and Mr. V. Green the fourth. (6)
