Introduction
The third annual intercollegiate chess tournament between the students of Columbia, Harvard, Yale, and Princeton universities began yesterday afternoon at the Harvard School, 578 Fifth avenue. Unfortunately, Alburn E. Skinner of Yale fell ill, and so R. L. Ross took his place. Wm. Freeland, A.M., the governor of the Harvard School, where the tournament is being played welcomed the students and spectators, and without much ado the alma mater men sat down for the first round of the series.
