Synopsis
The match between Mr Blackburne and Capt. Mackenzie was won by the captain with two games to one. This little event has stimulated the desire of seeing the captain measure his strength against Mr Mason, and Messrs Cubison and Collinson have again volunteered to provide the prize for a contest of the best out of three games between Capt. Mackenzie and Jas. Mason. Play commences on Monday next. The games will again be published in The Field. (1)
The Mason-Mackenzie match is not concluded at our going to press. The first game, commenced on Monday last, was abandoned as drawn after nearly nine hours' play and one hundred and thirty-eight moves. The captain had the move, and Mason adopted Philidor's defence. The second game, a Giuoco piano, is adjourned, for the second time, after seventy-two moves. The contest is very stubborn, and the spectators evince the great interest in it. Mr H. Baldwin has added an equal share to the prize given by the gentlemen named last week. (2)
The match—the best out of three games—between Capt. Mackenzie and Mr James Mason was decided in favour of the latter, the final score being: Mr Mason, 1 and 2 draws. (3)
