The 2nd European Championship was a 13-round Swiss tournament held in Ohrid, Macedonia, 1-15 June 2001, with a rest day on 8 June, and a day for playoffs on 15 June. No less than 142 GMs (of which 40 were rated >2600), 38 IMs, 14 FMs and 9 other players participated. The players were obligated to stay in Hotel Desaret.
