Kibitzer's Corner
Jun-01-08  dx9293: Karpov still finished +3 at age 57...
Jun-01-08  Dr. Funkenstein: What were the time controls for this tournament?
Jun-01-08  pawnofdoom: Wow there were four people with +4, one with +3, two with -6, and one with -7, and nothing in between. Since when does that ever happen in a chess tournament?
Jun-01-08  suenteus po 147: <Dr. Funkenstein: What were the time controls for this tournament?> I believe this is traditionally a rapid tournament.
Jun-02-08  percyblakeney: The field was a bit weaker than in last year's event, where Ivanchuk won ahead of Grischuk, Radjabov and Shirov:

It sure wasn't bad (2686 performance), even if he was ranked third in the field and is at his best in rapid chess nowadays.

On the whole the bottom three were different class, and that's where the top players picked points, for example Ponomariov went +6 in his 6 games against Golubev, Beim and Korchnoi.

The biggest surprise was maybe the top two, Tregubov and Drozdovskij, the latter being rated below Korchnoi.

Jun-04-08  wallytherhino: 4-way tie is pretty crazy. The games were very interesting for this tournament!

Fusilli: Did Karpov and Korchnoi shake hands in their games? Did they ever shake hands again after their acrimonious world championship matches?
