Introduction
The Counties' Chess Association, in combination with the Lincoln County Chess Association, will hold its annual meeting in the Guild Hall, Boston, during the week commencing Monday, January 19th, 1880, when prizes will be offered in the following classes:

Class I.—Open to all Provincial Amateurs and Metropolitan Amateurs by invitation, by subscription of £1 1s. The first prize will be of the value of £10; the second prize will be of the value of £4; the third (if there are eight entries) £1 10s. (1)

Conclusion
Mr. Ranken, up to Thursday evening, had scored 4, but had a game to play with Mr. Wayte, who had won 3 games. In the event of the former winning the game with his opponent, he would be declared the winner in the class; but if he lost, he would tie with Messrs. Skipworth, De Soyres, and Wayte, and all would have to play again, with the exception of Mr. De Soyres, who was not able to stay in the town until the completion of the tourney. Messrs. Ranken and Wayte played their final game in this class on Friday morning, it being decided in favour of the latter. Messrs. Skipworth, Ranken, and Wayte having thus equal scores will have to play again. (2)

There were, therefore, four ties for highest honours. Mr. de Soyres, being unable to remain, resigned his chance, and the other three equal scores played a pool of two games each. (3)
