Cohen was an easy qualifier, while Steiner had to work a bit harder after losing to Cohen in the second round.

Treysman dominated, but that's obvious. Mugridge and Grigorieff were both admitted to the Championship rather than breaking their tie.

A runaway; nobody else was in the class of the leaders. MacMurray drew with Price simply to ensure qualification for the Championship.

Santasiere could never quite catch up after a first-round loss. Marchand's last-round win over Elo enable him to qualify.

Polland started slowly with 1.5/3, but finished with four wins in a row including a last-round victory of Winkelman tht won him a spot in the Championship. A special note for <John Winter>, who tied <William Widmeyer>'s record of 14 tournaments and became the first to compete in four decades.

Championship

Defending champion Al Horowitz, who had been playing with the Olympiad team in Stockholm until August 14th, was seeded into the Championship final in the expectation that he would return in time to make the trip to Chicago. However, a stormy and delayed arrival made this impossible, so the Championship proceeded with only eleven players.

Once again an early loss left Polland trailing the leader, but he went on another five-game winning and nobody could keep up. He actually clinched first place while sitting out with the bye in round 10.

Unfortunately, there is not enough information to present full crosstables for the remaining sections.
