Sneaky: Eh?? Qxb7? Did Compx blow a circuit or is White really that bad off?
Jul-09-02  refutor: you've got to remember...it seems strange and mysterious now, but this was 1977 ;)

Sneaky: Ahhh... in other words... the same technology they use at Freearcade Chess!

Feb-22-04  bumpmobile: Sneaky: He he... thanks for the link..that was fun. I get tired of getting beaten all the time. Here's another link that is more difficult but still beatable... http://www.postcardchess.com/comput... There is a pretty neat correspondence chess deal there too. Lots of popups unfortunately.
Apr-18-04  ruylopez900: Question, was Nigel's opponent a computer or a chess club?
Apr-18-04  chrismiceli: <bumpmobile> Sneaky's comment was a joke, you can pull the 4 move checkmate on that program.
Apr-18-04  Calchexas: <Sneaky>: LOL. I'm so used to playing 2. Nf3 that I didn't try the 4 move checkmate, but I ended up promoting a pawn on about turn 10 and delivering something like mate in 15 shortly after that (I didn't play perfectly).

That's really funny how bad it is. I could write a better program given a year or so (to learn the techniques for representations, I mean.)

Apr-19-04  bumpmobile: <chrismiceli> I know it is a joke. That's what I was saying. I get beat all the time by real chess players. It was fun to play and win for once. (Just for fun I played the 4 move # on it just now).
Apr-19-04  Lawrence: <bump>, have you tried the easiest opponent on Chessmaster?
Jun-01-04  600POUNDGORILLA: Not exactly Fritz 8, is it? I haven't beaten anybody that way since I was seven years old.
Jun-01-04  uponthehill: <bumpmobile> that postcardchess is quite fine, for long hours in bureau. Thanks for link. Pity that it has no notation.
Jun-01-04  uponthehill: <Sneaky> and Blackjack on www.freearcade.com is exciting :)
Jun-17-04  blitzkrieg: Qxb7?geezz..the computer really blow up!
Jun-17-04  iron maiden: Honestly, a single question mark isn't enough to do that move justice. This machine plays like the beginner level of Chessmaster. I guess this is back when just programming a computer to play chess was a big deal.
Jan-13-05  ArturoRivera: 10.-Qxb7 is a very a and complex sacrifice, even better than the rook Kasparov sacrificed against topalov, but chess 46 missed one point, despite the material advantage he would undoubtly gain, after 67.-...Kg3! he cant stops black pawn queening :)
Jan-13-05  rueflow: I vote best chess computer ever! You simply can't lose! I tried to but it wouldn't mate me.
Jan-13-05  TheSlid: Freearcade chess is a great laugh. Plays legal moves every time!
Jan-19-05  ArturoRivera: well, after all, did you noticed white resigned after black captured the pawn, not the queen, perhaps that pawn was needed for a complex mate net lol
Apr-11-05  Knight13: 10. Qxb7!! Wow! I vote this one for the best move of the century!

(Just joking)

Apr-11-05  Milo: Perhaps it was staving off some obscure mate?
Apr-11-05  THE pawn: Wow...I was confused a bit, I watched the game thinking Short was white...I got scared for a few seconds...

<Sneaky> Wow...I'm amazed by the strength of the computer on your site...must be rated around 50...wow!

Jan-28-06  Bacon Short: What the hell did this computer played??
Apr-26-06  DeepBlade: <Compx Chess 46>Ha! Laugh at me now, but after 50 years you will see this is a brilliant sacrifice wich wins in every variation. You crazy humans with your dogma's like ''dont bring out your Queen too early'', but I dont blaim you, nobody has opened your eyes until now!

I think the programmers made a mistake. Compx Chess 46, I thought a chessboard had 64 squares!

Apr-26-06  asip87: wad da helll..........??
they didnt set set up the dificulties for computer, haha but now, chessgenius by richard lang also very hard to defeat!!
May-05-06  Confuse: nigel short shows that computer whos boss. well played!~! err. =P
