Jan-11-10 | | ROO.BOOKAROO: It's refreshing to read a 5-page kibbitzing where not one move of the game has been discussed. I tend to agree that Carlsen, without being downright ugly, is not good-looking. His chin and lips make him look brutish, a bit Neanderthalish. I was shocked the first time I saw a picture of him after having heard him labeled as the boy genius of chess, the "Mozart" of chess. What a joke. However, all the pictures of Fischer in his early 20's show him as a rather rangy, elegant and very attractive man. Probably the best looking player in his crowd. And even in the last pictures, when he gets off the plane in Iceland, looking like an aging derelict hippie, with flowing white beard, unkempt hair, shabby clothing, and a certain demented look on his face, he still retains a certain grandeur and photogenic appeal. |
|
Jan-13-10 | | topi: <You are right Roo.bookaroo> it happened the same to me. I was kind of disappointed when I first saw a picture of magnus. with so much money he wins, he should have an operation of his chin or do whatever he wants to look nicer |

Jun-22-11 | | DrMAL: What Ms. Scrumptious describes as a novelty in her video, 10.Bf4 is not particularly good. True black's position get's quite passive as she states but also as she states it is solid. White's amateurish kingside attack goes nowhere, Kosteniuk defends and regroups calmly. Then white tries to gain advantage on the queenside with a blockading knight on c5 and after 23...Bc4 it seems he is starting to succeed, but again black calmly regroups and white shifts back to the kingside where Kosteniuk defends with brilliant accuracy. 30.Kh2 is the start of a dubious advance that leaves white's king exposed. 32...Be4 was a key move as she points out, where black now also has a potentially dangerous attack with the opposite color bishops on board. From here on, the blitz game gets increasingly inaccurate. White continues to build more kingside attack but 36.Re3 was a key inaccuracy where 36...Bxc2 could have simply nabbed a pawn. White's attack is gaining advantage particularly after 39...g6 but instead of continuing with 40.Bxh6 he plays 40.c4 a serious mistake. Here black misses the combination following 40...Rxb3 and plays 40...Reb8 a counter-mistake. But again white misses opportunity with 41.e6 and plays 41.Bh6 another mistake. After 41...Rxb3 (finally) white should have played 42.Re2 right away and the game would have very likely been drawn. Instead he plays first 42.Rce1 another mistake then after 42...Rb2 Carlsen makes a huge blunder by moving the wrong rook to e2, losing a rook and setting up a forced mate. Great game by Kosteniuk, she once again plays with amazing calmness in blitz that wears out her opponent and creates yet another big win from their collapse. |

Jan-11-13 | | echever7: In my opinion Carlsen was lost anyway. If Re1-e2, follows Rb1 and is difficult to defend against Rh1+ and Rbb1. Am I missing something? |
|
Jan-11-13 | | echever7: <echever7> After 43. R1e2- Rb1 44. Rxe4-Qxf2+ 45. Rxf2-dxe4 46.e6... |

Feb-08-19 | | Dr Winston OBoogie: It's crazy how I've only seen the footage of the <end> of this game <once> in my life (I recall the quick hands and Kosteniuk telling Carlsen off before he walked out, lol), and when I just clicked on the game and went straight to the end position to see how she could possibly beat him (I thought it said 2019 🤷♂)I immediately recognized it! I've never been through the game in my entire life, including now, still haven't, but you could have shown me this position and <somehow> I would have guessed the game.. It's crazy how the brain recognizes things 🤷♂ |

 | | An Englishman: Good Evening: Optical illusion or reality? After 20.Nb3, Black's position looks terrible, *terrible." Way behind in development, weak dark squares all over the Queen side, a potential central pawn roller with the e- and f- pawns...yikes. |

 | | Teyss: <Check It Out: The pun harkens back to...well, let's not go there.> I must be missing the dubious innuendo of the pun, I thought it was only referring to the noise of a chuckle. For those who forgot about this game, at the end Carlsen hesitates between the two Rooks, first plays 43.R3e2?, takes it back and plays 43.R1e2, upon which Kosteniuk rightfully complains. All this in two seconds since it's a blitz. An angry Carlsen then walks away without shaking hands. Not very galant. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PCd...

 | | perfidious: Knowing nothing of this game, my first assumption was that the pun pertained to Curly Howard of the Three Stooges and his 'Nyuk, nyuk nyuk' shtick. Pity the background, as elucidated by <Teyss>, was of a far darker hue. |
