Kibitzer's Corner
Jan-17-04  InspiredByMorphy: Steinitz plays well in more than the obvious sense. It seems to me that he takes Bird seriously in this match at all times. He obviously has the slight upper hand but maintains it all the way to the end, and mostly only captures when forced to. Winning a won game is not always easy, as overconfidence can easily set in.
Apr-03-08  Knight13: <InspiredByMorphy: Steinitz plays well in more than the obvious sense.> Agreed. He was forming a very big fist to punch right in Bird's face. This game is positionally oriented, and very close to my style of play.

Apr-22-18  Big Pawn: Bird played creatively and with fighting spirit. Too bad he missed 33. Ra3 with a likely draw.
Nov-16-20  sneaky pete: <offramp: Bird sent to the abbatoir>

An abattoir is where birds are slaughtered.

An abbatoir is where you find your Waterloo.

Nov-16-20  Retireborn: <offramp> meets his destiny in quite a similar way.

He's playing almost as accurately as an engine. Human bias for fun stuff has gone! He's become a vulcan :)
