Feb-03-12  YoungEd: 36. ♘e8!! This would make a good puzzle move. Once it's played, it's easy to see why it's so great--but it's a move I never would have found.

Very nice move, indeed!

Don't I know it.

Feb-21-23  Retireborn: Is there any information (dates, no of games) about the match or tournament this game is from?
Feb-21-23  Messiah: <Retireborn: Is there any information (dates, no of games) about the match or tournament this game is from?>

I have done a shallow search for information, but did not find anything worthwhile.

Feb-21-23  Nosnibor: <Retireborn> The game shown here was from a small number of friendly games that Charousek played with Doctor Kaufmann. These were the last games that Charousek played before his untimely death at Nagy Teteny, Budapest on 18th April 1898. All of his games with Kaufmann were played at the health resort of Merano in the Austrian Tyrol and under care of the good Doctor. In all there are three recorded games between these two.
Feb-21-23  Nosnibor: Apologies Charousek passed away on the 18th April 1899.
Feb-21-23  Retireborn: <Nosnibor>, <Messiah>, many thanks to both.
Feb-21-23  stone free or die: <Retireborn> there are three <Charousek // Kaufmann> games in Sergeant's Charousek book, G-122 to G-124:

https://books.google.com/books?id=c...

The first two are listed as <Meran 1899>, but the last (21-move Vienna Gambit Declined, Charousek as Black winning) is less certain:

<(?) Meran 1899>

.

Feb-21-23  Retireborn: I used to own that book, but I must have skipped those games, being mostly interested in defined tournaments and matches.
Feb-21-23  Aminda: 34. g3, b6. Weak on both sides (SF).
Feb-22-23  stone free or die: <Retireborn> - it would be nice to go a step (or two) upstream from Sergeant. Cheers.
