Kibitzer's Corner
Jan-22-10  Dravus: Foretelling and that certain jazz rhythms were Russian-originated (perhaps finding its genesis in the time-defying opening bars of Glinka's Ruslan and Ludmilla Overture), Chigorin unleashes the Evans Gambit (and is shorter in pawns) in a game later with saxophone players of opposite colors. But Steinitz, using rubatos from Tchaikovsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, Zawinul and Shorter (with rook percussion), adjusts and dominates the white squares pulling a Birdland on Chigorin in Russia.
