Aug-14-03 | | refutor: great game by fischer at/near his peak...although (considering i've never heard of him) i'll assume that Camara wasn't a top 10 GM in the 1970s ;) |
Aug-14-03 | | Ribeiro: <chessgames.com> This game was played by Hélder Câmara, and not by Ronald Câmara, who was the captain of the Brazilian team. Hélder Camâra won the Brazilian championship in 1963 and 1968, and received the title of IM in 1972. |
Aug-14-03 | | Ribeiro: <Hélder Camâra won the Brazilian championship in 1963 and 1968,> I made a typo mistake: Hélder Câmara is the correct form. |
Aug-23-03 | | Marnoff Mirlony: Fischer slays the Dragon. |
Aug-23-03 | | PinkPanther: <Fischer slays the Dragon.> So can we start comparing Fischer to BeoWulf? |
Aug-23-03 | | Marnoff Mirlony: Lets compare all Dragon Slayers throughout history. Lets also compare every person who has ever driven a car, used a telephone, and looked at the sky. Since one person did it, he must be comparable to another who also did it. |

Aug-23-03 | | ughaibu: Lasker vs Vidmar, 1909 this is the earliest example I can think of of what amounts to a Yugoslav Attack. |
Jun-12-04 | | Queen killer: I think you'll find Beowulf slayed a grendal; not a dragon |
Jun-12-04 | | zb2cr: <Queen killer>, You're not remembering the whole Beowulf saga. Beowulf first killed the monster named Grendel, then the monster's mother. Later in the saga, the aging Beowulf, assisted by Wiglaf, did in fact kill a dragon. |

Jun-12-04 | | Catfriend: And died in the process... |
Jun-12-04 | | drukenknight: Helder needs to 00 sooner, like on move 15. |
Jun-13-04 | | Catfriend: I don't think so.. I mean - well, against RJF of course by #15 it was dead, but against any other player, after 15.♗d4 white can still blunder, be overconfident, get involved in a wrong combination and so on! I'd resign after 21.♖d1+ |

Feb-22-06 | | RookFile: This game is really something. It shows the calculating power of a super GM at work. Black's moves are logical, and pertinent to the position - and he gets crushed. Sure, you say, black didn't castle - but even that is a decision that can be defended. Everybody knows that in the sicilian dragon, against the castled king position, Fischer specialized in h4, h5, an exchange sac, and mate. Sometimes, delaying castling can give white a moving target that is hard to hit. It just didn't work here, and the super GM found the absolute best moves to devastate the black position. |

Mar-09-07 | | AAAAron: 16. e5 is the kicker!!! |
Mar-14-07 | | AAAAron: 19. Rxd7 is also a great move! Black's defense is completely destroyed by removing the bishop. |
Aug-15-07 | | vonKrolock: In a Tournament Hall, the Câmara brothers meet Kevin O'Connell (or was Robert Wade?!) - "I'm Ronald, my brother Hélder here was who played that game with Fischer, not me, like You wrote in Your Batsford book" "...?!..." "HE - not me - we are BROTHERS - SAME SURNAME" - (the englishman, to Hélder) - " See, how Your brother is angry! Next time You play better..." |

Sep-22-08 | | ongyj: Actually, I still think the idea for Black to delay, if not forgo ...0-0 altogether in the Dragon is worth a try, for the same reasons stated by <RookFile> -- After castling, Black gives White an obvious target to work on. My main queries involve whether Black has sufficient time to actually play ...a6 followed by ...b5 rather than the typical ...Ne5 ...Nc4 seeking a trade off for White's Bishop. Thanks in advance for sharing of knowledge, experience and/or comments and/or criticisms ^Ô^ |

 | | tpstar: <ongyj> There are 4 database games with 10 ... Qa5 11. 0-0-0 Ne5 where Black omits ... 0-0, all White wins = http://www.chessgames.com/perl/ches... This game seems to represent model play against that idea: 12. h4 (anticipating 12 ... 0-0), trade 13. Bxc4 and retreat 14. Nb3 to kick the Qa5, 15. Bd4 to prevent the classic ... Rxc3 sacrifice, then open the center with 16. e5 de 17. Bxe5! gaining a huge advantage. Note the Rh8 is out of play, plus the Black King gets a weak back rank due to the Bg7; 24 ... Kf8 is out due to 25. Rd8+ mating, or 24 ... Nd7 25. Rxd7! Rxd7 26. Nc5 wins. |

Sep-23-08 | | znprdx: I don't get it a super GM versus a minor IM, what's da point: 3 strikes you're out: #1 ...10 Qa5 try ...Na5
#2 ...11 Ne5 " ...a6
#3 ...12 Nc4 " ...h4
The only interesting thing about this game is to contemplate what Fischer might have played as Black instead of ...14Qc7. At this point in his career he probably could even have won with ...Nxe4 |
Sep-23-08 | | ongyj: Thanks for your prompt response, as always, <tpstar> However, I don't think the examples you've raised have killed off a possible try of delayed, if not without ...0-0 altogether. Like I said, I think the mistake here lies in Black's insistence in executing the conventional...Qa5 and/or ...Ne5c4 encouraging Bxc4 Rxc4. Rather, because of the delay ...0-0, try instead ...a6-b5 and maybe ...Qc7 turning it into somewhat a Najdorf Hybrid. Also, because Black has not castled, in desperation Black might even consider ...h6 in view of the g4 h4 attack. If anyone would/could, I'd like to learn whether this is a bad plan, and if so, why? Looking forward to learning more from everyone. Thanks ^Ô^ |
