  tpstar: Interesting major piece endgame. White could have taken the perpetual with 30. Qe4+ but won a Pawn with 30. Rxe8 Rxe8 31. Qxc5, then 31 ... Re4 defended the Pd4 and prepared 32 ... Rg4 attacking White's King. Note 33. Rxd4 Rxg2+ 34. Kf1 Qe6 threatens 35 ... Qe2# while defending against Rook checks on d6 (where White might win). White probably wanted to trade Queens but 37. Qxe2 is out due to 37 ... fxe2 & 38. d3 and the passed Pawns crash through. Black's King found safety on h5, meanwhile White gets mated after 38. fxg3 Qg2#, or 38. Kh1 Qxd1+ 39. Kh2 Qg1#, or 38. Kh2 Qxf2+ 39. Kh1 Qg2#.

keypusher: A funny finale. After 36....Kh5 Janowski is doomed in light of 37.Qxe2 fxe2 38.Re1 d3, etc. So he tries 37.Qf5 hoping that Lipke will somehow overlook the mate on f7.

Here 37....Qxd1+ is good enough: 38.Kh2 Rf4!! 39.gxf4 (39.Qh3+ Rh4! 40.gxh4 g4! 41.Qg3 Qe1 followed by the advance of the d-pawn is another nice variation) Qf1 40.Qh3+ Qxh3 41.Kxh3 gxf4! and white gets mated after the pawns promote. But Lipke finds a much faster win.
