Kibitzer's Corner
Feb-20-03  Spitecheck: This one is basically positional until the end, Kasparov devoid of a central pawn, exploits his majority on the Queenside. Tal a little late to the party gets his centre (well part of it) moving just before the death knell. A bit of tactics or a blunder which ever way you choose to see it, and it's all over. Interesting and very instructive game.

Spitecheck.

Aug-23-04  Kabbyg: Is it true that Garry missed mate in 2 after black's move 35?

paulalbert: Rg3ch, Kh8, Qxf6 looks like mate, unless I'm not awake yet this morning. Paul Albert
Feb-13-05  Flyboy216: Yes, that is rather suspicious. How could Tal blunder like that? After 34. ... ♕b4 it's mate in 3 or lose the queen.

ray keene: this was a five minute game-i was there at the time-it needs to be labelled thus and removed from the official stats
Jul-06-06  ismetov: 34....Qb4 how Tal did this move !?
Aug-30-06  KOCCMOHAYT: five minute game or not, no exuse for such a terible blunder

Aug-30-06  slomarko: maybe he threw the game.
Nov-08-06  LawrenceT: KOCCMOHAYT: five minute game or not, no exuse for such a terible blunder

Do you really have the talent to judge the late great Mikhail Tal?? Even former World Champions make mistakes; show some respect!! Tal was less than five years away from his deathbed--I'm willing to consider that an excuse!!

Nov-09-06  Fisheremon: <Kabbyg: Is it true that Garry missed mate in 2 after black's move 35?> Yes, but Tal missed also 33...Nxc7 to save a draw.
Dec-19-06  lopezexchange: yes, 33...Nxc7; 34.Rxc7,Qb8; 35.Nf6+,Kh8; 36.Nd7,Qxc7; 37.Qxc7,Rxc7; 38.Nxf8,Kg8; 39.Nxe6,fxe6; 40.Rxd3,Kf7; is a draw, but Kasparov had the upper hand for most of the game. He could have ended it with 25.Rxd5,Qxd4; 26.Rxd4,Nb5, 27.Rd7, or 25...Nb5; 26.Qxa7,Nxa7; 27.Rd7, and Black has no defense.

Also 27.Nb5 as well as 27.c7 both win for white. 30.Rcc1 wins as well. and 31.Qd2/Qc1 both win. It was a blitz game, so dont be surprised to see blunders like these. It happens. If this were a regular time control game then we would be shocked by such long string of blunders. But not in a blitz game. ;-)

Oct-06-07  rigel1503: KOCCMOHAYT so you always play perfect five minute move and giggle chess??????

As Ray Keene said, this was a 5 minute move and giggle game and should be removed from the stats.

Also, objective comment from "Bishops r power" saying Tal sucks after making a blunder in a move and giggle game

Mar-12-08  hedgeh0g: Well, from reading the comments for this game, I think one can safely conclude that talk is cheap.
Sep-06-08  Confuse: <LawrenceT> a blunder is a blunder. we can judge whomever we want, it is our right as human beings.
Sep-06-08  Chesstalesfan: Tal was fluctuating up and down, with a period of one-year. 1987 the horrible blunder. 1988 wins the Blitz tournament. Another typical example also there is to bring.
Sep-26-09  WhiteRook48: 34...Qb4??
Sep-26-09  AnalyzeThis: I remember that around this time, Kasparov said he felt sorry for Tal. Qb4, of course, would be a move that in about 1 second Tal should have seen was wrong.
Dec-03-13  jonie: it's nice to see the battle of these two world champions with different styles if they are both of the same era..
