Aug-30-04  Knight13: Kasparov was really close to winning.
Dec-16-04  flamboyant: yep, but not close enought :)
I think that game really show the difference between human and computer players. With the threat of mate by Garry , i think most human player would have been afraid of mate threat by garry and went back to defense around moove 33. But that computer showed that they absolutly got no feeling , only pure brute calculation processor.
Mar-15-05  spirovskiyev: This is the earlier version of the Deep Blue Super Computer which defeated Kasparov a year later.

This silicon opponent is believed to have the calculating power of 100 million chess moves per second...

Mar-17-05  aw1988: Actually, 100 million *positions*. Even worse.
Aug-18-05  Ferdyrojo: When Gary had made up his mind to launch an assault to White-IBM Deep Blue's King, with 28. .... f4, he knew he was sacrificing one of his pawns, but that attack was unsound, so his decision appears to be hazardous or speculative... into expecting for Deep Blue to commit a mistake. As it happened, Deep Blue is an advice-taking machine from his teachers, and It did not err on any move. So Kasparov could hardly allege the team was tampering with their match.
Aug-24-05  shortsight: <Ferdyrojo> Kasparov allegation was for 1997 re-match, not the 96 match.
Dec-02-05  WMD: It's suprising that Garry didn't play the immediate and thematic 27...f4, after which his kingside threats should hold the draw.

31...Qf4 is refuted by by 32.Rc8.

Dec-17-05  Confuse: Hi! Im new to this website and this is my first comment. Glad to be here =) I may sound dim, but can anyone explain to me why on move 35, Kasparov doesn't take the knight with his queen, and proceed to mate with rook one move later? thanks in advance!

  Chessical: <Confuse> If <35...Qxf7> then 36.Qd8+ wins, e.g. 36...Kg7 37.Rxf7+ Kxf7 38.Qd5+ Ke7 39.Qxf3
Dec-18-05  Confuse: thanks Chessical! poor gary came so close
Mar-02-06  McCool: So close. Just one more turn for Kasparov.
May-20-06  Shakur: chessical f <35...Qxf7> then 36.Qd8 i think that i can come with his rook, Re8.. couldn t he ?? sorry for my english ( cus im portuguese ) .. and sorry too for the question..
May-20-06  pawn to QB4: You're right Shakur. But if GK tries 35...Qf7 36.Qd8+ Re8 then 37.Qxd4+ Kg8 38.Rxf7 Kxf7 39.Qxf2 (Re2 40.Kg1), machine 1 human 0, sad to say.
May-20-06  CapablancaFan: Wow, after 34...Nf2 Kasparov has mate next move, but deep blue never gives him a chance to deliver it.
Sep-26-06  olelz: I hate the idea that a computer can beat the human mind in a chess game. I wonder who could beat deep blue. Fischer, perhaps?
Sep-26-06  positionalgenius: Actually Kasparov didn't come close to winning. He lost by a big margin in this game.Still very entertaining. <olelez>Kasparov beat it in 1996.In 1997 he narrowly lost because of an acute case of paranioa, and possibly cheating,by IBM.
Sep-26-06  blakjak: i really hope they take up bobby fischer's offer. he said he could beat 25 deep blues
Sep-26-06  olelz: <blakjak> that would make a great simul!

Sneaky: Did Fischer really say that?? He can be a braggard, but that's over the top.
Sep-26-06  positionalgenius: Yeah and that idiot would go +0-25.
Sep-26-06  olelz: come on positional, he was arogant, but he was really amazing. what about Anand then. could he beat Deep Blue?
Sep-27-06  positionalgenius: <olelz>Anand? yes in a match. But no player could go +25-0 against a super-strong computer like Deep Blue.
Sep-27-06  olelz: I didn't mean that Anand would win all the games. But he could win the overall match. Anyone who pretends to be able to beat Deep Blue by +25 sounds completely idiotic, as you pointed out. It is the type of comment that one can expect from Fischer, though.
Sep-27-06  positionalgenius: <olelz>Indeed.
Sep-27-06  Tomlinsky: I'd be interested to know when, where and to whom Bobby Fischer made this claim.
