Kibitzer's Corner
Jan-09-02  bishop: Not long after this game Estrin decided over the board chess was not for him, but he took up correspondence chess and went on to become world champion.
Aug-31-02  paulmurphy: Too bad, because Estrin and Spassky both had similar styles - wide open. But I wonder if your facts are correct, Bishop - this very database shows these two meeting again 3 years later.
Sep-09-03  PVS: Who is better after 10.c4 0-0 11.cxd Nd4?
Feb-28-04  Brian Watson: That’s an interesting variation, PVS. 10.c4 0-0 11.cd Nd4:

A. 12.dxe6 Nf6+ (not 12..Nxb5 13.Qd5)

i) 13.gxf6 ef 14.Qd4 (is there another defence against ..Qh4?) Qg6+ 15.Kh1 Qh5 and can mate be prevented?

ii) 13.Kh1 Qe5 14.g3 Qh5 15.h4 Qxb5 and black has recovered the piece and still has an attack.

B. 12.Be2 Nxe2+ 13.Qxe2 Qe5 and black will win a pawn.

Feb-28-04  drukenknight: look at all the exchanging white has open to him on move 15...
Jul-04-05  calman543: A black blitzkrieg from a 14 year old Spassky.
Jul-15-05  calman543: I bet Spassky chose to transpose into a reversed King's Gambit because he felt that white's c3 move did nothing to help the non-gambiter.
Sep-28-09  kooley782: Simply delightful.

LIFE Master AJ: Nice crush by Spassky. Impressive too, considering that he was Black.
Mar-29-15  A.T PhoneHome: Am I correct if my continuation is:

20.Kxg2 Rg6+ 21.Kf1 Qxh1+ 22.Qg1 Qxg1#

I think that's it, comments?

Mar-29-15  A.T PhoneHome: To continue my post above (since I'm not sure how to edit posts unless it's Premium-only):

Taking the Bishop on g2 is one of only two possible moves for White King; the other King move that doesn't result in immediate mate is 20.Kg1 which is disastrous as the very next Black move is mate, 20...Qxh1#

Played around with another idea, involving Black's f5 Knight, may be that I am just seeing non-existent things and there is no mate involving f5 Knight there! Any comments on this?

plang: 3..f5 is not played much and after 5..Qf6 a new position had been reached already. 9 c4 looks like an alternative. 10 f3? was probably the losing move; 10 c4 would have been better.
