  Honza Cervenka: 14...d3 was an ugly surprise for white. 15.Nxd8 loses after 15...Qa4 16.b3 Qg4+ 17.f3 Qxg2 etc. After 15.Qh6 (threatening Qxe6+) black can play 15...dxc2+ 16.Kxc2 Qa4+ 17.b3 Bd3+ 18.Kd1 Qg4+ 19.f3 Qxg2 etc. Also 15.cxd3 Qa4+ or 15.bxc3 Qxc3 is absolutely hopeless. The best continuation for white seems to be 15.Nd6+ Kd7 16.Qe4 (white successfully closes d-file and avoids Qa4) but then 16...d2 17.bxc3 (17.Bxd2 Bxd2 18.Qd4 Bb4 ) 17...Qxc3 18.Rb1 dxc1=Q+ 19.Kxc1 (19.Rxc1 Qxc5 20.f4 Nf5) 19...Qa3+ 20.Rb2 (20.Kd1 Qxc5 21.f4 Nf5) 20...Rb8 21.Qd4 Qxb2+ 22.Qxb2 Rxb2 23.Kxb2 Rxg2 should win the game without troubles.
Jan-29-04  ughaibu: Benjamin Lau: In the process of attempting to answer your question on the Estrin page and reviewing the games of the champions who achieved the best scores I've come across this. Maybe the shortest decisive game in an adult world chess championship. I see Honza Cervenka has explained it and I think I remember him being a strong correspondence player so perhaps he's best qualified to answer your question.
Jan-29-04  Benjamin Lau: Okay, so HONZA WHO DO YOU THINK IS THE BEST CORRESPONDENCE PLAYER OF ALL TIME AND WHY? :-) Who would be candidates for such a question?
Jan-30-04  AdrianP: <Benjamin> Hans Berliner has to be a pretty strong candidate...

Tunc Hamarat, the current ICCF champion, has apparently gone 40 years without losing a game playing the white pieces... that's either very impressive or a lot of draws! ;-)

Jan-30-04  Benjamin Lau: Thanks AdrianP.
Jan-30-04  Benjamin Lau: Is Hamarat spelled correctly though? I can't find him in the DB.
Jan-30-04  ughaibu: The spelling is correct. He has an uncatchable score in the 16th championship though there are still several unfinished games. The highest rated CC player is Ulf Andersson (2805), he has never lost a game.
Jan-30-04  Benjamin Lau: Thanks ughaibu, that's extremely impressive. None of the classical champions can claim this, ever. How come Andersson has never become CC champ though? Does he draw too much?
Jan-30-04  ughaibu: That's a point I wondered about. I assume he hasn't played in any, maybe someone can enlighten us?
Aug-23-07  whiteshark:
This was the shortest game of the 6th CC World Ch Final.

Additional: It's <Dr.> Aarseth

<whiteshark>,
This is the shortest decisive game in any ICCF World Championship Final tournament:

V Borsony vs A Laustsen, 1956
