Jul-21-06  randytaylor2006: Wow....Lasker was a great player and had White. Hodges just dismantled him here.

  GrahamClayton: 25. g4 forking the Black knights would result in Black regaining the piece after 25...♘f6 26. gxf5 gxf5+ 27. ♔h1 e4.

Now 25...♘xf4? loses a piece after 26. ♖xf4.

Jun-03-11  TheFocus: This was not a simultaneous game.

It was match game 1 in Lasker's match series against strong players of the Manhattan Chess Club.

Lasker defeated Hodges 2-1.

keypusher: <TheFocus> Thanks for all you've posted about Lasker's 1892 games. There are four against Hodges in 1892 in the database -- do you know which ones were played in the 3-game match? do you know the circumstances of the fourth game?
Jun-03-11  TheFocus: <keypusher> The fourth game was a simultaneous game.

I am currently inputting Lasker's career in my Game Collections. I just started yesterday.

Jun-03-11  TheFocus: <keypusher> I know you are an expert on Lasker's career, so I would value any criticism you have of the collections.

Thanks in advance.

A bad loss for Lasker. His Ruy let him down.

I think you have the wrong position.

<25.g4 Nh4!> is the answer. 25...Nf4 as suggested in notes by Lasker, Steinitz and Marshall/Hodges (see the Hilbert/Lahde book on Hodges) runs into 26.Qxf4! and the attack flounders.
