Jun-19-08  whiteshark: After <58.h5> it's a tablebase #14 position.
Jun-19-08  braimondi: Chuky!!!!!! Winsss!! o//
Jun-19-08  Marmot PFL: Anything wins except Qe7
Jun-19-08  transpositions:

1-0 Chucky won last move was Kg6

Jun-19-08  Wild Bill: The dancing Rook will emerge momentarily.
Jun-19-08  sabitsingson: Eljanov is looking for a blunder from Chucky. :)
Jun-19-08  DCP23: This photo of Eljanov is outdated. He's much more round-faced these days.
Jun-19-08  hedgeh0g: Wow...just signed on, saw the weird queen endgame, went to post a comment and BAM! Chucky wins!
Jun-19-08  sabitsingson: What will be the estimated ELO of Chucky after this game? Anyone know?
Jun-19-08  rankbeginner: Very instructive game. ... I often get positions with small positional advantages, but cannot convert them to wins. Chucky made it look somewhat easy. And I like the way he used his time: he took lots of time at the critical positions -- which made me wonder if the transmission was down. ... I think Eljanov will want to re-evaluate his opening in this line: he was cramped from the very beginning. ... A wonderful tournament: thanks to all the players, and congratulations to Carlsen and Ivanchuk.
Jun-19-08  whiteshark: Both, instructive and entertaining!

chessgames.com: Thanks to everybody for coming by during our live broadcasts from the Aerosvit tournament. Congratulations again to Magnus Carlsen for his dominating performance. We hope to have more live broadcasts in the near future.
Jun-19-08  Ulhumbrus: One question is whether 32...g6 instead of 32...g5 can draw eg after 33 Kg3 f5 .
Jun-19-08  rankbeginner: And of course, a gigantic thank you to Chessgames.com for hosting this online event. It's so much more fun to watch the game here, and interact with all the commenters, than it is watch the game alone.

Lots of grace notes when you have connected passed pawns.

34 e6 should win, if 34...Rd8 35 d5 and Black cannot take because of the e pawn would queen after 35...Raxd5 36 Rxd5 Rxd5 37 Rc8+

<frogbert> shows that Ivanchuk's Live Rating is now <2791(!!!!)>.

So the July 1 FIDE list will show 3(!) players rated over 2790 -IFF- Foros gets rated for this time period.

Anand 2798
Carlsen 2792
Ivanchuk 2791

Carlsen's 2792 and Ivanchuk's 2791 are both all-time best ratings for them.

Go Chucky!

Jun-20-08  Shajmaty: Why not simply 20. ♘xc4 (instead of 20. h3)? Any compensation for the pawn?

tpstar: <Why not simply 20. Nxc4> That was hotly discussed during the game. It was proposed that Black might blockade the position with major pieces:

White would have some trouble making progress due the backward Pd4 & Pb4 which require constant protection. So Ivanchuk patiently improved his position and then swiped the Pawn on Move 27.

Jul-05-08  Shajmaty: Thanks, <tpstar>.
