fredthebear: Nicely played by Cochrane. Black is severely punished for 14...Qxb2 but she had no good retreat square to go to as knight forking possibilities would exist. White makes great use of the half-open files. In the final position, White is threatening to capture the Black queen and generate a pseudo-Morphy's Mate after 20.Rg3+. Here, mate will occur on the half-open g-file because of the rook lift 18.Rb3 that gained time on the Black queen.

Some confuse Morphy's Mate (originally QxBf6 gxQf6 to open the g-file) with his ultra famous Opera House Game/Mate (Qb8+ NxQ) on the open d-file. Both sacrificed a queen to open the line for a rook check. The Opera House Game/Mate occurred on the queenside against an uncastled Black king. Morphy's Mate cracks the g-file against the castled Black king.

Morphy's Concealed Mate applies a brief Windmill Rxg7+, Rxf7+, Rxg7+ etc. forcing the Black king to shuffle Kg8-Kh8-Kg8-Kh8 where he is mated by the bishop on the long diagonal. Similar is Pillsbury's Mate, which uses an open g-file and both rooks: the first is sacrificed Rxg7 Kh8, Rg8+ KxR, and finished by the second Rg1#. The two "ll"s in Pillsbury's Mate can be a Mnemonic device that reminds of the two rooks.
