The incident received renewed attention after Magnus Carlsen referenced it during the Carlsen–Niemann controversy, claiming that Dlugy had previously served as a coach of Hans Niemann.[15][16][17] Later, Vice published an article where chess.com released e-mails showing that Dlugy had confessed to cheating multiple times on chess.com and had to be banned entirely from all events with cash prizes.[18] On October 10, 2022, Dlugy made a lengthy statement denying that he had done any actual cheating, defending Niemann, and denying any involvement with Niemann's game.[19][20]> A vibrating shoe device...couldn't you make more money with that at the blackjack tables in las vegas than at a chess tournamnent?

Dec-18-24		goodevans: I didn’t see the point of Black’s 25...Bd7; Ba4; Bc2 invasion but at least from there the bishop was able, a few moves later, to do a little dance around his queen (31...Bd1; Be2; Bd3). I don’t think either manoeuvre gave White much to think about.

Dec-18-24		goodevans: As far as I can see, the only way to avoid immediate mate would have been to decline the R with 36...Qb6+ 37.Kh1 Ne8 but then after 38.Qxh4+ Black would have been forced to give up his Q. <BxChess: <DaltriDiluvi:> 37...Rg8 38. Qxg7# is quicker...> You might want to check that. ;o)

Dec-18-24		belgradegambit: I know real players like perfidious often mention encounters with a player in the GOTD. A patzer like myself can rarely do that but in the final round of a tournament in 1980 I played Dlugy with the Black pieces and drew which gave me third place and $300.

A) 37 ... Rg8 38 Qxh4+ Kg6 (38 ... Nh5 39 Qxh5#) 39 Ne7# B) 37 ... Ne8 38 Qh5+ Kg8 39 Ne7# C) 37 ... g6 38 Qh6+ Kg8 39 Qg7# etc.

Dec-31-24		stacase: Worse than yesterday [To self, "Well it's supposed to be dummy!"] I flailed around looking at all sorts of moves that didn't lead to a quick mate and finally noticed that 36.Qg5 threatened mate and nothing could be done to stop it. 36...Qxa1+ was a spite check or a hope that White would somehow screw up.
