Jul-31-12  Gypsy: <OBIT: Going by Houdini analysis, Carlsen's 30. Nb5 is less accurate than 30. Nd5 ... > Thx!
Jul-31-12  Pedro Fernandez: Now white have multiple threatens.

OBIT: Bacrot, in major time pressure - again - has probably turned a won game into a loss against Giri.
Jul-31-12  Pedro Fernandez: ...Nb7 is mandatory

chancho: Bologan is going down in flames.

OBIT: Geez, Bacrot getting mated now... frightening.

HeMateMe: with the DSB driven off of the diagonal attacking the b5 pawn, white is free to play R-f4 and finish off the f5 pawn, followed by the e7 pawn. He can also put his rook on the a file and win.

Bologan will soon resign.

Jul-31-12  Gypsy: <40.b7> Black should resign, I think.

OBIT: OK, this one is over, but Nakamura's game is getting interesting. Houdini likes Hao at the moment.
Jul-31-12  haydn20: Meanwhile if Hao can do 9 correct moves in 1'29", he could draw.
Jul-31-12  Travis Bickle: Kid Carlsen wins it!

chessgames.com: Stick around--we'll be switching to the lively Nakamura-Wang Hao game in just a minute.
Jul-31-12  Cemoblanca: 39...Nc5?? === Suicide! ;0)
Jul-31-12  MarkFinan: Carlsen Is just unbeatable with white right now!!
Second greatest player Iv'e seen In my lifetime, after Kasparov..

chancho: Magnus once again showing his propensity for greatness.
Jul-31-12  sethoflagos: <OBIT: .... Houdini likes Hao at the moment>

Hao's playing better when he's under severe time pressure than when he sits and thinks for 30 minutes

Jul-31-12  Cemoblanca: Live Rating of Magnus: 2846.4! Hold on tight, Kaspy! :D
Jul-31-12  Chessmaster9001: It seems an awful idea to give an extra pawn to Carlsen in such gambits. Same story again, yesterday Hao today Viorel. Magnus presented a textbook example of how to play against Benko. The whole idea of putting the pawns on b3 and a4, knight on b5 and rook on a2 is a product of genius mind. He is just too strong for this field. Only word - BRAVO!
Jul-31-12  whiteshark: <Chessmaster9001: .. < The whole idea of putting the pawns on b3 and a4, knight on b5 and rook on a2 is a product of genius mind.>> I think Petrosian played it already this way.
Jul-31-12  whiteshark: arrgh, he used another setup with Ra3 + w/o b3: Petrosian vs Alburt, 1977
Jul-31-12  whiteshark: Games Like Carlsen vs Bologan, 2012
Jul-31-12  aporia: The highlight of this game to for me was when, after 28. Nc7 someone wrote "... unless there is a tactical shot. Anybody see one?" After a few seconds, it looked to many of us the Carlsen had blundered away his bishop, until we realized that 26. Nc7 was essentially a bishop sacrifice that led to a won ending. Someone saw a tactical shot, it seems. In fact it was going on right in front of us.
Jul-31-12  The Last Straw: what happens after 40…♘a6?
Jul-31-12  Kinghunt: <The Last Straw> 41. b8Q+ Nxb8 42. Rxb8# ought to do the trick.
Dec-22-17  takchess: In Junior Tay's book on the Benko, he suggests 15...Rb7! 16 Bxe7 h6 17 Ra3 Ne5!? 18 Nxe5 bxe5 19 Bh4 Nc7! 20 f4 Bg7 21 Rha1 Re8! 22Rb3! Qa6 23 Qc4 Nxb5 24 Rxb5 Reb8 25 Ra3......
