At this point Stockfish rated White +1.5. That's amazing.

AylerKupp: <keypusher> At what search depth? Stockfish's evaluations do not have much credibility at lower search depths, say d<25.
Jan-19-17  JASAHA: What was up with 33...Bf5? Time pressure? Seems like the decisive blunder. So had a good edge but this move clinched the game.

You are right. That number is from chessbomb's stockfish, which I think is shallower than d<25>. So it's somewhat suspect.

But even with that caveat, 1.5 in a seemingly quiet position 15 moves in is quite surprising.

Jan-19-17  xanadu: Positions in the English or QGD where Black opens the center at the very beginning (5...d5) are easy to play for White. Then Black uses to be under time pressure...not a good prospect if you are playing against Wesley So.

I should have added, "especially where Black has an extra pawn."

Jan-19-17  Eyal: According to Svidler & Gustafsson in their live commentary on chess24, 5...d5? - instead of 0-0 - is pretty much a basic opening mistake (perhaps a confusion of move order), because after 6.d4! with the opening of the center, Qa4+ becomes very annoying for Black in various lines (the most critical being 7... e5 8. Qa4+ Bd7 9. Ndb5). I suppose that for most of us Black's 5th move looks completely natural, but Svidler sounded genuinely amazed that someone at Harikrishna's level plays something which to him seemed so obviously lousy.
Jan-19-17  ChessHigherCat: <JASAHA: What was up with 33...Bf5? Time pressure?> Yes, he must have been in a terrible hari. Bxb6 would have just been an exchange of pieces instead of losing the exchange.
Jan-19-17  Eyal: Harikrishna was indeed in serious time trouble, but by move 33 it probably doesn't matter much - 33... Bxb6 34. Rxd3 is pretty much as hopeless as the game continuation. The decisive mistake (after putting up a heroic defense which led to good drawing chances) apparently occurred already on move 28 - Nb4? instead of Ne5!. Of course, the time trouble wasn't just an "accident," but a direct result of the trouble Black got into following his opening mistake.

maxi: Perhaps Svidler thinks the position is transparent after 5...d5?, but I am amazed at how bad Black's position is by move 10; it seems lost. One could perhaps try 6...0-0 in order to save the game. Opinions?
