OhioChessFan: Fab just can't play blitz.
Jun-06-17  luzhin: Yes, it's surprising how Fabiano lags so far behind the other top players, at Blitz. Incidentally I wonder if Carlsen had seen that, instead of 21...Be7??, Black had 21...Kb6 22.Rxd8 Bc5!! after which it's White who's in trouble.

ajk68: <luzhin>: Do you have a deeper line?

Playing it forward a bit with the help of a weak computer, it looks like a very dynamic draw - which would probably be won by Carlsen with his endgame technique (fits his style completely).

Breunor: Soltis has this game in his column today. He gives:

22 Rd8 Bc5 then
1. 23 Rxh8 Qxf2
2. 23 Qe6 Ka5 24 Rd2 Rd8

That second line is nice, but -- c'mon, Andy! It's a blitz game!

An Englishman: Good Afternoon: In one of his YouTube videos, Carlsen calls 5.g4 the "Trent Variation," adding that it's named after a "terrible player."

But this game constitutes the first appearance of the opening in the CG database! Is "Trent" a code name for himself?

Check It Out: <An Englishman> maybe he was taking a humorous jab at Lawrence Trent, Caruana's former manager. With a peak rating of 2487 in this database he's not exactly a "terrible player", but this is Carlsen we're talking about.

The commentators like to tease Lawrence Trent. He is one of their pet objects,a bit simular with Giri, who they sometimes call "our boy".
