takebackok: Monday like easy, black is toast after 35. Nc5.
Nov-06-24  TheaN: This is easy for a Wednesday, after <30.Nc5 +-> White threatens Nxe6 and the defenses fail: 30....Qxd6 31.Nxe4+ +- as per text (f5 is pinned) and the alternative 30....Rxc5 31.Qxf8+ with 32.Qxc5 +-, in both cases winning a full rook. Black's toast.
Nov-06-24  stacase: My dear long departed brother always said, "Who isn't doing his job?" In this case it's White's Knight. And there it is, Black doesn't have e4 covered because f6 is pinned. So 35.Nc5 threatening 36.Nxe4+ forking Black's King & Queen if 35...Qxd6 which is the way it went.

F6 was pinned ever since 31.Nd4. So it looks like White's Knight "knew" what it's job was after all, and Black didn't see it coming.

I love discovered attacks and pinning the other guy's pieces. I know, everyone does.

Nov-06-24  saturn2: 30.Nc5 Qxd6 and now white has the choice between 31.Nxe4 and 31.Rxd6 which both are good.
Nov-06-24  mel gibson: I missed that today.

Stockfish 17 says:

35. Nc5

(35. Nc5 (1.Nc5 Qxd6 2.Nxe4+ Kg7 3.Nxd6 Ra8 4.a3 Ne6 5.Rfe1 Kf6 6.Nb5 Nf4 7.Kh2 Kg5 8.Rd4 Nh5 9.Nd6 Ra7 10.Rb4 Rd7 11.h4+ Kh6 12.Re6 Ng7 13.Rf6 Kh5 14.Rd4 Ne8 ) +7.19/43 288)

score for White +7.19 depth 43.

Teyss: Agree, easy one. Even if the f5 Pawn weren't pinned (the f1 Rook being elsewhere), White would win, taking the BQ with the R and ending an exchange + Pawn better.
Nov-06-24  Georgian: Yes, the puzzle was easy, but blacks downfall began when it allowed white pond to reach the seven row and destroy blacks castle
Nov-06-24  Saniyat24: Cantering Horsey...!
