halito27: Huh. Nf4 is a natural move to play but where's the win? I don't see it.

moronovich: White has to look up for Nf4-BxN,BxB-e3 !

Sally Simpson: I like 2...Bg5 a good swindlers move. there are two movers there to avoid and Ding is reaaling from yesterday.

halito27: <moronovich> Yes, that's exactly what I'm looking at. Snap off the knight and push the e-pawn. I can't calculate the lines but if I was Ding I would be a little nervous about this.

Sally Simpson: You have to go for it. Bxf4 and e3.

perfidious: Ol' <Geoff> is a sly one at heart and always appears to have some two bob trick to hand.

halito27: Oh, right. Nice. With the White bishop on f4, c7 is very vulnerable. Nice. Okay, okay...gotta calculate here. This is getting tactical!

Right there are tactics all over the board ;)

Dec-09-24  siamesedream: Gukesh was outplayed. Like in previous match against Nepo, Ding strikes back in game 12 with White pieces.
Dec-09-24  optimal play: The world champ playing confidently now.

He’s not giving up his title without a fight.

He just has to maintain concentration and bring this home.

OhioChessFan: Black's claustrophobic pieces on the Queen side have to be vulnerable. I'm sure I'm not alone in figuring out how White can proceed.
Dec-09-24  Cassandro: Like <OCF> pointed out, Black's ..e3-threat was illusory.
Dec-09-24  whiteshark: omg, my laptop has been down for 15 minutes - and now what? I thought the Chinese crashed it, but given the circumstances, maybe it was the Indians after all.

Sally Simpson: Domg has fallem for the ghost threat, Move 25. Bang in d5 with Bf7 ideas Plants some seeds of doubt.

perfidious: Now a central breakthrough with d5-d6 is looming; an old friend would say it is 'eminent'.
Dec-09-24  optimal play: Gukesh only has 8 mins left to make 15 moves.

He may get flagged.

Dec-09-24  marcwordsmith: oof
handshake any minute I expect
Congrats to Ding.

Maybe <Geoff> was trying to be trickful.

Maybe I was responsible.

halito27: With all the talk about Ding's supposed confidence issues, imagine what kind of psychological strength it takes to respond to yesterday's game like this. It's incredible.
Dec-09-24  Cassandro: After ..Nb8 White can win the exchange with Na7.
Dec-09-24  marcwordsmith: very artful game ... Ding built up his advantage so gradually ... no major blunders like Gukesh I don't think

perfidious: Does White go for more than the simple win of exchange, or does Ding try to keep the pressure on with both players being somewhat short of time?
