It's funny, I thought Black's attack looked as good or better than White's, then everything seemed to change after 52.g4.

Jun-04-25  cehertan: Fabio blundered playing to win. He can not lose if he trades queens on move 50. Chess is tough game.

keypusher: Played over this game again -- what an absolute heartbreaker for Caruana. But what a mighty effort from Erigaisi.

Not like beating strong GMs has ever been easy, but the effort it takes to win at the top seems greater than ever. Nobody's getting much out of the opening, that's for sure.

beatgiant: Was 55...Qe5+ the fatal error? After 55...Qe5+ 56. Rg3, Black's rook and bishop are both under attack and 56...Qh5 didn't work.

For example what does White have on 55...Qc2 instead? For example 55...Qc2 56. Rg3 <Rxf2+> 57. Bxf2 Qxf2+ 58. Rg2 Qf5 and I don't think Black can lose.

perfidious: If Caruana had gone in for 55....Qc2, hard to see anything for White; the suggestion of ....Rxf2+ if he removes the double guard should give him chances if he can untangle the kingside.
Jun-05-25  ewan14: The pressure is telling on two of them !
