Feb-24-04  Whitehat1963: Does anyone have any historical info on this game? I believe it was either at this point or shortly thereafter that Bacrot earned his GM title (youngest ever at that time). Has the GM title lost its prestige since 1914?
Feb-24-04  drukenknight: Chess players in general have lost prestige since 1914.

plang: Bacrot was 14 when this game was played. This was the 1st round. He went on to make his final GM norm. Pretty impressive positional play. Bacrot didn't like 12 Na4 and felt that black was better after this. If 19 Rf4 black would get extensive counterplay against e3. After 25..gf blacks extra pawn is weak but his pieces are much more active. The way Bacrot expolits this is impressive. One of several threats in the final position is 42..Rf2+ 43 Kg1..Rg2+ and if 44 Kh1 then 44..Nd2 and 45..Nf3.
Nov-11-06  aw1988: So Bacrot does not like 12. Na4.

12. Ne4 is better, I give White a .

plang: Korchnoi defeated Bacrot 4-2 in a match later in 1997 but those games are not included in this database. Game 4 from the match is included in Korchnoi's best games book (Vol I- games with white).
