  GrahamClayton: White should have played 36.♖f3 ♗c5+ 37.♔h1 ♕c8 38.b4 ♕c7 39.♘g6+ ♔h7 40.bc5, with two rooks and minor piece for the Queen.

  NM JRousselle: GrahamClayton, I think you mean with rook and 2 minor pieces for the queen. Your suggestion is quite clever and shows a rare case of the queen being dominated.
Apr-14-13  optimal play: Blackburne tried the same opening line just five days earlier Blackburne vs M Fleissig, 1873 however Fleissig played a much less sensible defence for a very bad loss.
May-21-23  sneaky pete: The winning line after 35... f3? 36.Rxf3 .. is mentioned in the tournament book, as is the improvement 35... Qf5
