Kibitzer's Corner
Jan-24-04  Benzol: 100 Chess Gems has the end of this game as 20.♗xf6+ gxf6; 21.♕g7+ 1-0

If 21...♔xd8; 22.♖d1+ ♕d6; 23.♕f8#

Can anyone confirm this as so?

Jun-02-08  JimmyVermeer: I don't know, but Laszlo Polgar's book has it ending with 20 Bxf6+ Resigns (the first 19 moves are the same). Also, Polgar gives the date as 1905. One possible explanation for this might be that the game was part of a tournament that began in 1905 and ended in 1906. A less likely explanation is that these people played 2 separate games that differed only on White's 20th move. Here is a possible alternate ending:

20 Bxf6+ Nxf6 21 Qxg7+ Kxd8 22 Rd1+ Bd7 23 Qxh8+ Qf8 24 Qxf8+ Ne8 25 Rxd7+ Kc8 26 Qxe8+ Kb7 27 Bd5+ Ka7 28 Qxa8#

Whereas 20 exf6+ would result in this ending (1 move slower)

20 exf6+ gxf6 21 Bxf6+ Nxf6 22 Qg7+ Kxd8 23 Qxf6+ Qe7 24 Qxh8+ Qe8 25 Rd1+ Bd7 26 Rxd7+ Kc8 27 Qxe8+ Kb7 28 Bd5+ Ka7 29 Qxa8#

Jun-02-08  percyblakeney: <Laszlo Polgar's book has it ending with 20 Bxf6+ Resigns>

That's the finish Richard Forster gives in his book on Burn, 1906 is the right year though.

keypusher: Ostende 1906 would be a great tournament collection, if someone had a spare year or two.
Jun-02-08  Calli: I could ask for an ostended vacation. ☺

keypusher: <Calli> Not sure what that little figure is next to your post, but at least it looks ashamed.
Jun-02-08  whiteshark: With the wisdom of hindsight I'd give <8...Nf6> preference. I wouldn't expect 9.Qg4 anymore. :D
