  GrahamClayton: 8...♘xe5 would lead to 9. ♘f5, (threatening 10. ♕xd5 and 10. ♘xg7+) 9...c6 10. ♘xg7+ ♔f8 11. ♗h6.

Gunsberg needed to make 9 moves in 13 minutes, which probably explains why he blundered with 21...♘d5.

  Chessical: Gunsberg lost the first game of the match as Black due to a simple blunder. He had almost equalised against Chigorin's Ponziani Opening but overlooked a very simple tactic. Instead of <21...g6!>, Gunsberg played <21...Nd5>
