Oct-09-12  wordfunph: according to R.G. Wade, GM Stein declined GM Hort's peace offer on move 11.
Feb-01-16  jerseybob: <wordfunph: according to R.G. Wade, GM Stein declined GM Hort's peace offer on move 11.> But, according to Wade, with good reason. Wade says 59.Nc5 wins and that 64.Rb7 was better than 64.Rb6+.
Feb-02-16  DWINS: <jerseybob>, 59.Nc5 looks strong, but 59.Rh8 Nd7 60.Re8 is completely winning according to Stockfish 7 (4.05).
Feb-02-16  jerseybob: <DWINS: <jerseybob>, 59.Nc5 looks strong, but 59.Rh8 Nd7 60.Re8 is completely winning according to Stockfish 7 (4.05).> Looks good. To paraphrase what Bronstein said to Fischer back in 1960 about a Lopez position, after so many years, you're bound to find an improvement.
Feb-10-21  saintdufus: From the tournament book:

"March 1: This must be the blackest day of Stein's chess career. Stein lost in 40 moves after turning down Hort's offer of a draw on move 11! Hort was depressed at the way his luck had run and only wanted to be away from the torture. His chances of winning two games seemed remote. But Stein's rejection of the draw angered him and he became determined. Stein's counter-offer of a draw a few moves later was brusquely dismissed and Stein lost in 40 moves. Stein was out of the Canidates' series. Reshevsky by drawing and Hort by winning would have the last place."

perfidious: Dang, how Stein must have regretted his mishandling of the endgame, as victory would have turned the race for candidates places on its head down the line.
Feb-11-21  vonKrolock: <saintdufus> ( & <perfidious>) Refers to this other game, from the playoffs Stein vs Hort, 1968
