Apr-30-04 | | paultopia: hmm... I feel like black could have survived after 22. ... Kd7. and sprinted the king to safety. Anyone have detailed analysis? Presumably Zukertort saw some forced mate else he simply would have won the queen with 22. Bg5+ |

Nov-11-05 | | chessfreako: Omg i can't believe nobody has even anylased this game yet... This is a very wierd game... With a knight sacrifice on the 5 move! I question if this move is sane... I feel that white do not recieve enough compensation for it. 7. e5 also worsened the situation!
Rather that 17. Rxe7+.... 17. Bxh8 seems to be much better. Even so, black has also made many fatal mistakes in play. 20... f3! Would have saved the situation.
20... f3
21. gxf3 Qf5
22. Qxh8 Qxf3+
23. Kg1 Qg4+
24. Kf2 Qf5+
25. Kg1 O-O-O
26. Bxe7 26. ♘xe7 ♗xe7! Qxd5!
27. Qe5 27. ♗xd8 ♗c5+ 28. ♔f1 ♕f3# Qxe5
28. Rxe5 Bg7
29. Rc5+ Bc6
30. Bxd8 Bd4+
The worst mistake is 22. Be6??
22. Kd8 would have kept the game alive....
If I missed out anything can somebody point it out? I believe this game has more to it than just these... |

Nov-11-05 | | DCP23: <chessfreako>, the sacrifice you're talking about is a long, long known book move. It is called the Muzio Gambit. 7. e5 is a book move too, and is considered the best continuation in this line. |

Nov-11-05 | | chessfreako: <DCP23> O... ok i didn't know that thanks for telling me. But can you please tell me what compensation does white recieve for the knight? |
|
Nov-11-05 | | DCP23: <chessfreako>, why, the ATTACK, of course! ;) It is the same idea basically as in the ordinary King's Gambit, but shall we say with more commitment and more audacity. Is it sound or not is of course another matter. There are actually 153 Muzio Gambit games currently in chessgames.com database, so your best bet is to explore, play through them and see for yourself. Of those 153, White register 60%+ wins, by the way. |

Feb-07-07 | | venk98: why the knight sacrifice in the opening itself? i don understand... can anyone explain?plzzzzz |
|
Feb-07-07 | | venk98: 22. Bg5 is really bad in such good position for white.., b'coz after 22.Bg5 black would reply with Qe6. as a result of these sequence of moves.., white's checkmate is not possible also white is down a knight... |

White gets a good attack as compensation...the control of the F file and a speedy attack on the weak F7 pawn |

Feb-08-07 | | venk98: yeah.., thnx jamaicanNM! |

Aug-07-12 | | drpavno1: Zukertort was indeed an attacking player with some glimpse of teh great Morphy. |
|
Jul-29-19 | | fkohn: The online chess engine I use could not find a mate for White. It gives: 22 ... ♔d7 23. ♕xd5+ ♔c7 24. ♕c4+ ♔d7 25. ♕a4+ ♔c7 26. ♕xf4+ ♔b6 27. ♗xh8 ♖c8 with a 3.74 point advantage for White. |
