ray keene: did black have to resign? i am no fan of futile resistance but this seems a tad early to me-in particular since white may end up with an extra bishop but with an h pawn promoting on the wrong colour square-any views on blacks capitulation?
Apr-25-09  ozmikey: I guess Donner didn't want to get blitzed in the ending (my deepest apologies for that bit of Teutonic twittery...)

Seriously though, can Black liquidate enough pawns to engineer a B + wrong RP-type situation? What sort of continuation did you envisage, GM Keene?

ray keene: all black has to do is trade the a file pawns and its going to be a draw-he may find it difficult to achieve this but it was in my opiniion worth a try
Sep-02-09  rchczrms: Or a possible explanation would be that Black lost on time. (?)

Honza Cervenka: It never hurts to continue po play for a while even if the game is technically lost, which is the case here. But the question is what black can try in this position and how to continue just now. 35....e4 36.Nxa7 doesn't look much hopeful and 35...a6 36.Nxe5 Bf5 37.Kf2 is not much better.
