tamar: Tarrasch gives brief notes to this game. This was Pillsbury's first game, having a bye in the first round.

After move 18, he writes

"The Black Queenside is somewhat weak, but these weaknesses are hardly exploitable, the two bishops cover everything."

At move 21, he notes that the situation is turning, with the Black bishops getting free, "and White must take care not to get a disadvantage."

Two pawns up, Black just has to be careful and should win.

The variation is long, but White's options are limited, and he is at a disadvantage guarding the f4 pawn and the Qside pawns, while Black can give back the c pawn and still have an initiative.

Once the Black Queen becomes active, the threat of combining it with the two bishops makes White's task too hard.

  Mateo: <tamar> Even simpler is 28...Qe2 29.Re1 Qd2 30.b3 Bd5, and then 31...Qxf4. But yes <Pillsbury missed a win>.

Dec-11-19  Carrots and Pizza: Instead of 13.c4, I was thinking 13.Bg5. Wouldn't that more or less force ...f6, thus weakening the e6 square?
