Kibitzer's Corner
Aug-07-08  keywiz84: I have a book about this tournament
and it is said that 17.f4 was a decisive mistake.Donner should have played Rc3,then Re1 and then Rce3 with pressure on e-file.
Aug-07-08  DarthStapler: You needed a book to tell you that?
Aug-24-19  Lander: Un error muy serio de Donner que más adelante llego a tener 2500 puntos de ELO.
Dec-23-21  Zugzwangovich: Astonishing that Donner could have failed to see the 17...Nd3 threat.

17.f4?

I played on to see if if 17.f4 was intentional as an exchange sac but there is nothing. It was a simple blunder.

I can only think that back here (Black to play)

Donner was expecting 15...Ne5 when 16.f4 is a good move and went in auto pilot mode after 15...Bxb2 which he possibly missed or underestimated.

This was a bad tournament for Donner, he finished bottom equal with 5½ from 20.
