You must have been thrown off because Chessmetrics has him under "S" rather than "K." <Cemoblanca>'s recollection is close to correct. Bh3! 51..Qxf2, 52. Bg4 and the Q has a whopping total of 1 square to choose from (h4), 53. Bc8 and if BxB, Rx B or if Ba8 Ba6 and either case white can finally penetrate the b(l)ack ranks. I seriously doubt that I'm the first one to ever analyze these variations. Can anybody confirm those lines? |

Good point. Trading the Q for a B + R wouldn't usually be so dramatic but here 53...QxBh5, 54. Rxh5 gxh5 55. g6 Nf6 56. Bg5 Ke7 57. gxh and black's goose is cooked. |

WWI was, by any rational account, a stupid war. In contrast to WWII, the countries weren't fighting against imperialist countries looking to exploit and destroy others. It was just a big-ol' extended battle of trench warfare, causing senseless death and destruction. If Capa didn't have to fight, I don't see how that's any kind of stain on his legacy. |
