An Englishman: Good Evening: According to legend (i.e., don't take my work for this), Mieses once played an exhibition game in his 80s v. an opponent even older, and won. His comment? "Youth has triumphed."

Aug-02-25  green ink: The story goes that Mieses once arrived for a tournament in the U.S. and was greeted by an official: "Are you Mr. Mises?" "No, I am Meister Mieses!"

perfidious: Never heard that tale, but it is consistent with Mieses' waggish sense of humour.

offramp: The Customs Official directed Mieses to the elevator and said <I declare that I am Meester Meeses and youth has triumphed and I won first Flohr, second Flohr, third Flohr etc.>

perfidious: That official was a good distance from the scene in which the lift boy was reputed to have told Flohr the same thing three summers before.

HeMateMe: Benoni had some great puns.
Aug-02-25  DaeWang: I'm amused that the WN drops on c7 with threat to snap off the R/a8, then doesn't! Instead, he retreats all the way to deliver the killing blow from e3.
